What do you say about this kind of album? It's mostly made up of the kind of music you either loved when you were ten, or hated your daughter/sister/friends for liking. As I was listening to it, I was trying not to instantly loathe it, and give it a fair shot, but, on the other hand, I also needed to make sure that I didn't go easy on it just because I didn't want to be blinded by pop-hate.

Most of the album is bad. Objectively, and critically, it's just bad music. It's mostly unoriginal, canned dry heaves, put out by the forgettable names of early 2000's pop music. There are some that are more enjoyable than others, although mostly for nostalgic, kitsch value.

I like "All Star," and can continue to enjoy it, despite having had it drilled into my ears more times than likely any other song in history.

The worst indescretion on this album is "Gotta Get Out" by Nuclear Donkey. To understand why it's so bad, it's helpful to understand that Nuclear Donkey was a band formed by the hosts of the YTV's afternoon cartoon block, "The Zone." Their first single, "Donkey Sneakers" was the final track on the original Big Fun Party Mix. Its brilliance included the opening line "Today is Friday, I hope you have your shoes on (x2)... Donkey Sneakers!" I think you can see what kind of "band" this is. So, by the third Big Fun Party Mix, we've gotten to "Gotta Get Out," which is all about hating school, not being able to concentrate, and only loving recess. Appealing to kids? Maybe. Enabling of inattention and disrespect to the education system? Probably. A really really stupid song? Absolutely.
