Eddie Vedder - Into The Wild
Appropriately, Into The Wild starts off with a song called "Setting Forth." It does succeed in the creation of a feeling of beginning, but at 1:38, it drops off when it feels like it's supposed to keep going. The follow-up track, "No Ceiling" is able to accomplish a lot more with 4 seconds fewer.
"Rise" is a great little ukulele fuelled song.
"Long Nights" sets a spookier tone, juxtaposing a frantic finger-picking guitar with a slow, careful vocal line.
"Hard Sun" is impossible to not sing along with, even if you haven't heard the song before. By the second chorus, you are hooked.
Something I noticed listening to this album is that quite a few songs sound like other, more famous songs. I have also shared this theory with others and been told that they don't hear what I'm hearing, so it's 87% possible that I am full of it.
But, to me,
"Tuolemne" sounds kind of like "Dust In The Wind,"
"The Wolf" sounds like Eddie Vedder channeling Enya, and
"Guaranteed" sounds like "Over The Rainbow."
Feel free to disagree.

I just watched the movie last week, and had assumed that the similar sounding tracks had something to do with not wanting to pay royalties for the originals, but still wanting "the sound" - or something like that.
