So, I wasn't really there in 1967, so I don't know really know how legit the advertising is on this album. In nearly every track, however, there is a jingle or shout-out to various products. It sounds kind of silly, leading me to think that it's meant to be satirical, but since when do jingles not sound silly? Then again, if this album is meant to be satirical, how did they manage to get the rights to use these products?

Wikipedia doesn't really clear things up, as apparently, during this period of their career, The Who were making commercials, but got in a lot of trouble for stealing jingles for the purposes of this album. My understanding is that the jingles from the 2nd disc were legit, while the ones from the first were met with anger and lawsuits.

Oh yeah, and there's music, too. Rolling Stone lists this album as the 113rd greatest of all time. I say eh. Some of the songs stood out, but much of the album has that late-Beach Boys trying to sound like early Beatles sort of sound, which I don't particularly care for. I wouldn't by any means call this album a failure, but in a lot of cases, I preferred the jingles over the songs.
