"Baby Please Don't Go" has a hard, energetic sound, and was very well-chosen to be the album's single.

"Never Loved A Girl" was a ballsy choice, considering it's a cover of an Aretha Franklin. Then again, if Joe Nobodies can sing Stevie Wonder on American Idol, Aerosmith is certainly entitled to sample Franklin's songbook. It's a competent adaptation, and probably the best example on the album of what blues would sound like as done by Aerosmith.

"Back Back Train" gives Perry the chance to take lead vocals, and he immediately takes to the bluesy sound. Coupled with the sexy backing vocals of Tracy Bonham, and righteous instrumentation, this is easily my favourite track on the album.

"The Grind" is the only original song on the album. It's not perfect, but it an accessible tune, not entirely different from "Don't Wanna Miss A Thing."

  1. Well!!!!! Not 4.67 !!!!;-) Maybe it’s because I grew up with pounding rock, and in later life learned to appreciate the simplicity of blues, that when Aerosmith brought them together in this album, I was in heaven. I loved your term “lush”, driving lushness (if that makes any sense) in every piece (short of “Jesus is on the Mainline”, not sure why that piece is there) is what brings be back to this album over and over (like right now).
