With an opening track as good as "Loser," you're bound to do some pretty great things. With its surreal rap verses and invasive-like-whoa chorus, the song is radio-friendly single with integrity. "Pay No Mind" is also good, but with more of a feel of stoner laziness (I mean that in a good way). Then there's "Truckdrivin' Neighbors Downstairs," which sounds like an angry protest song being song by Zordon from Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. I really can't think of any other way to describe it.
Otherwise, the album is disappointing, but only disappointing in the way that we've seen what else Beck can do. With such a strong opener and some other really compelling songs, the rest of the tracks fizzle out (even when supported by such awesome titles as "Fuckin' With My Head (Mountain Dew Rock)... seriously, how could that have not been amazing?). I've also got Odelay! on my to-listen-to list, so hopefully, by that point, Beck has figured out how to be great on a more consistent level.
