The Lemonheads - Come On Feel The Lemonheads
At first, I was convinced that The Lemonheads know how to make okay-plus music, with flashes of brilliance. Evidence for this occurs at 2:20 of "The Great Big No," when Juliana Hatfield's vocals kick in, and at 2:06 of "Into Your Arms," when the vocal line kicks up, decorating the cadence wonderfully. "Wow," I thought, "these guys really know how to finish a song." The bridge in "It's About Time" is similarly kind of awesome.
"Big Gay Heart" is notable for its unpretentiousness and directness, if not for its all-'round quality.
Then there's the playful track, "Style," which gets rehashed later in "Rick James Style." Here, the band fools around with negatives, double negatives, and a bit of repetitive wordplay.
The best song, far and away, on the album is "Being Around," a fairly immature ditty cut from the same cloth as Barry Louis Polisar's "All I Want Is You," only kind of better.
