Just like my album ratings, the following list is based entirely on mathematical averages. Each album's score is determined by its average track rating. Similarly, each artist's score is determined by its average album rating. In the event of a tie, I just pick my favourite.
Obviously, with this, or any kind of system, there's bound to be some skewing, mostly based on my not having listened to every album ever. For instance, no, I don't think, in all likelihood that The Fray is better than Led Zeppelin, but based on the average album rating of 7 Zeppelin albums (3.47), the one Fray album that I rated at 3.50 puts them higher on the list. Eventually, and ideally, once I have listened to the entire repertoire of popular music, this list can be used as an unequivocal guide, nay, textbook, for learning about the best recording artists in history. Until then, be patient, and feel free to rip me as many new ones as you wish.
